(This recipe is adapted from recipes I found on a web site, plus one I found on a box of Droste brand Dutch-process cocoa powder. It's a very rich drink, but worth every drop.)Hot Chocolate
5 T. Dutch-process cocoa powder
2 T. sugar
2 oz. (4 squares) of Nestle's dark chocolate baking bar, chopped finely or broken by hand
2 T. sugar
2 oz. (4 squares) of Nestle's dark chocolate baking bar, chopped finely or broken by hand
2 cups milk (I use skim), divided
About 2 tsp. of peppermint syrup (optional)
Miniature marshmallows (optional)
In a small saucepan over low heat, add the cocoa powder, sugar, and a little (about 2 T.) of the milk. Heat it until the sugar and cocoa powder are blended. Add 1 C. of the milk and bring to a low boil, stirring constantly. Add the rest of the milk and the chocolate bar pieces. Stir until heated and smooth.
Pour in to a mug with peppermint syrup. Add marshmallows.
Makes about one large mug at a time.
